Updated: Jul 8, 2023

Here are ten popular tarot spreads that are frequently used:

  • Celtic Cross Spread: This is one of the most well-known tarot spreads and is one of the most well-known and widely used tarot spreads. It provides a comprehensive overview of a situation or question, examining both the present circumstances and future possibilities. It consists of ten cards arranged in a cross formation, with each card representing different aspects of the querent's life and the situation at hand.

  • Three-Card Spread: This a simple yet versatile spread that provides concise insight into a specific question or situation. The first card represents the past, the second card reflects the present, and the third card indicates the potential future or outcome. It offers a quick snapshot of the energies surrounding the querent.

  • Relationship Spread: As the name suggests, this spread focuses specifically on relationships, whether romantic, familial, or platonic. It examines the dynamics, strengths, challenges, and potential outcomes within the relationship. The spread can vary in the number of cards used, but typically it includes cards representing each individual, the relationship dynamics, and future possibilities.

  • Horseshoe Spread: This seven-card spread that provides insight into a specific situation, including its past influences, current circumstances, and future trajectory. The cards are laid out in a horseshoe shape, allowing for a nuanced exploration of the situation and potential outcomes.

  • Past-Present-Future Spread: Similar to the Three-Card Spread, the Past-Present-Future Spread provides a focused view of a situation, tracing its development over time. The first card represents the past influences, the second card represents the current circumstances, and the third card represents the potential future outcomes.

  • Decision-Making Spread: This spread is designed to assist with decision-making. It explores the advantages, disadvantages, and potential outcomes of different options, helping you make an informed choice.

  • Zodiac Spread: Based on the twelve signs of the zodiac, this spread assigns a card to each astrological house, offering insights into various aspects of your life, such as work, love, and spirituality.

  • Tree of Life Spread: Inspired by the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, this complex spread delves into different levels of consciousness, providing insights into the spiritual and psychological aspects of your life.

  • Chakra Spread: This spread focuses on the seven major chakras of the body, exploring how energy flows through each area and offering guidance on balancing and aligning your chakras. Each card is assigned to a specific chakra, and the spread provides insight into the balance or imbalance of each energy center. It offers guidance on healing, personal growth, and aligning the chakras for overall well-being.

  • Year Ahead Spread: Typically used at the beginning of a new year, this spread provides an overview of the upcoming year. It offers insights into different areas of your life, including love, career, health, and personal growth.

  • The Jazz Spread: this is an additional spread I added in as it is my favourite spread to use. It was developed by the internationally acclaimed tarot reader and psychic Richard Knight. It can be adapted for many different readings using 15 cards (3 rows of five) for example: Past, Present, Future or Question, Action, Outcome.

These spreads offer various levels of complexity and depth, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your needs and preferences. Remember, the interpretation of tarot cards is subjective, so feel free to adapt or modify these spreads according to your intuition and personal style.
